Another example of why one should put a decent stamp on extension for a cert if it doesn't have one. This was purchased from Apfelbaum some time ago as a MNH 579; turns out it is just a 70 cent mangled 599 coil. I won't admit what I paid for it.

Any recourse with Apfelbaum for a refund?

You sure have to have a sharp eye or a well-tuned perf gauge to notice those perfs as fake. They would never register as fake to my eye. I assume your seller will refund your money . . . ?

It's a bit small, which is always a red flag. But still not a bad job. It's probably more obvious from the reverse; no pressure ridges.

Maybe put their "forever" guarantee of genuineness to the test.

Well done in posting, we should see more of this,
however others are not so brave.
There should be no shame in being scammed.

Mine was paying $70 for a Turkish, which turned out a Cinderella.

I salute you.

Had a number of problems with Apfelbaum stamps. They accepted my returns, but I haven't looked at anything from them in about 5 years. Not worth the repeated issues.

Perhaps there are some of us here, unwittingly blissfully unaware being a scammed purchaser.......

Thank you for sharing Oracle. It is always a good service to remind fellow collectors of the minefields out there and that there is a cast of "the usual suspects" whose names come up repeatedly.

I'm not sure if it was anger, frustration or just a warning to future buyers, but this collector left no doubt about the reperf jobs on his stamps. This is but one example of nearly a dozen new listings. No tossing away the certs for these babies! Oh my.

If someone was going to reperf it anyway, why didn't they reperf it 10 and try to sell it as the error???

I like to count the perf holes along the top side of the image. There are 11 almost perfectly along the top, and well over 11.5 along the bottom.

Here is a 578 purchased from a local dealer and upon showing him these pics, I told him I was going to return for store credit.
What do you all think of these perfs? Bottom checks out well with 11-73, but the top isn't even close. In fact the 2 right top perf holes are out of line.

And they are all mint stamps. If I was going to reperf a coil into one of these, I would find a used example with a date stamp from the appropriate time period. Much scarcer then mint examples.
