Old Missouri Hillbilly Sayin Howdy

Hi y'all!!

Just an old Navy ridge runner suddenly finding a lot of time on my hands. Last Aug. I wasn't feeling to well and went into the local Urgent Care. 2 1/2 hours later I was being rolled into the Critical Care unit!!! 3 days in there and 7 days in standard care and I went home, a new Dialysis patient. I'm considered disabled, but after dialysis 3 days a week (4 hours a session) I have a lot of time on my hands and they ain't much on TV.

In my travels around the Interwebs, I stumbled onto a Stamp Collecting supply site! My Mother and I collected stamps when I was a youngun'but I hadn't messed with it for a lot of years. I picked up a couple US Stamp albums and a stock book, looked around and picked up a couple bulk stamp sales and away I go. Really enjoyed seeing stamps that I had before!!! Still trying to figure out what exactly I want to collect. Dabbling with commemeratives, and some topicals, looking hard at blocks.I know that plate blocks are pretty much no more, but I'm a little stuck in the past, so I can play with them there.

I also still build plastic models, cars mostly, but military also. I study a lot of military history, mostly because I served on the USS New Jersey BB-62, 1981-1985. It always got me thinking that I was walking on floors that men 40+ years before were fighting WW2.

Anyway, sorry for the long winded intro. Glad to have found such a great forum. Hope to be able to add what I can to the community.

question, were you on any deployments that dealt with recoveries of NASA products?
most important question, are you a hillbilly with skills who kissed Neptune's belly? (more than once?)

We went on one deployment while I was aboard. Our 3 month shakedown cruise turned out to be a 11 month major deployment to the Eastern Med. If you remember when the Marine Barracks were attacked by a truck bomb and we lost 273 Marines and Sailors, I was there.

And yes, I qualify as a High Tech Redneck, BS degree in Computer Information Systems. I worked as a systems administrator for 8 years. And I did in fact kiss Neptunus Rex's belly!!!! (that was one wild day!)

I've been on dialysis for 6 years; no TV for me, I bring my laptop instead. I hope that you do not have to use DaVita!

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences. Russ

Thanks hoosier, I have always found stamp collectors to be very amiable. I remember, as a 8 year old collector, an older gentleman who we would run into at stamp shows, that would go out of his way to help me with whatever I was doing at the time. He always gave me a fist full of stamps.

I bought Mystic Heirlooms. And also got their Stock book. I must say, excellent quality. Very happy with them.
