Peter, as one Newbie to another here, I hope you find this as intriguing as I do. One thing you said makes me inquire - you said "I most often come across" stamps from the listed countries. How do you come across them?
For years I accumulated mail (covers, not the content) which was headed for the trash or shredders at the places where I worked. I think potentially there is some interesting postal history there, showing the different places we did business with and the changing postal rates over time. It is all US. I promised my wife if I did not do something to start displaying the accumulation (the most interesting part of it in any case) I would clear out the three plastic bins from our garage. I have actually started doing that, but still am looking for how best to make a postal history display out of it.
I did get some ideas for displaying postal history at another topic here. I am just chewing on that now.
Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.
