I was told at one point awhile ago, that these may have been used to show that a Japanese person had received their monthly retirement payment?
Does this make any sense to anyone?
Does anyone have a catalog number for these?
Thanks in advance.

I'm not exactly sure how the system works or worked, but this does have to do with a Japanese national pension system.

This particular stamp is listed in the Shimomura revenue catalog, in the section entitled "National Pension", and is stamp #6. (Each category of revenue stamps in the catalog has its own numbering sequence.) I have just the 2003 edition, but the used value is minimal (¥30). However, prices do not change much over time, so I would not be surprised if it's still what it is.

However, I do think there is definitely greater value and interest in having them on piece like this. I would not separate or soak them or really alter this in any way.

By the way, the year given at the upper right of the page (if the image is oriented as "portrait") is Showa 42, which is 1967. According to Shimomura, the date range for this particular stamp is December 1966 to June 1972, so it's right in there.

From Barefoot (2006)...

"Pension Fund for non-state workers, the stamps could be purchased from
Government tax offices or post offices. Thick pen cancels are often found on these issues."

These are very lightly cancelled! And 2 different shades? Left side and right side seem to be somewhat different colors.

Did a little more digging. Courtesy of Narumi's Japanese Revenue Stamp Catalogue (Sixth edition, 2016).

Again, this stamp is part of the National Pension Fund series, 1961 - 1980. It's a relatively long series, comprised of 39 issues. Divided into two groups; first being 1961, second being 1975.

The stamp in question is listed as #349, with an issue date of Jan 1, 1967. Perforation 13 x 13.5. Modest catalogue value.

No indication of shade varieties for this specific stamp. However, some of the issues feature large and small versions of the same design/denomination. This does not pertain to the 250 yen issue (which was only produced in the small version).

Rod.

Perhaps it's the contrast quality of the OP. But I don't see any perforations. Nor any burelage.

It almost appears the stamps were "stamped" or printed onto the document.

Yes, top left stamp hides the border, so stamps, but OP contrast.

How many in series of values? Jim.
I only have 80 yen and 250 yen

Rod.

There are 39 stamps in the 1961 - 1980 series. Based on listings within Narumi (2016).

There is no 80 yen stamp within this series.

Still find absence of blue-green security underprint (burelage) curious.

I guess the white background wiped out the perforations and burlage
