Yes. Scans are clear, and flat, so there is no distortion of edges, etc. It is much preferred over a picture. Front scan is needed, of course. Back scan is optional, but usually gives valuable information.

Yes indeed.
Save to USB? No idea what that is.

One should have a Folder where everything goes first.
Downloads, scans, notepad, ad nauseum.
you can then move items, to their desired locations at will.

In that folder you can re-name, edit, crop, copy and all sorts of things.

Folder named like "Dgparent stamps"
then all your scans, smart phone images, downloads, can be sent to that one familiar location.

Being organised is a valuable discipline to conquer in stamp collecting.

Yes, the ubiquitous smart phone cameras can give pretty pictures, but due to lens size the edges of the image are curved. Most, if not all, philatelic editors don't want smart phone images for publication for that reason and the one mentioned next. But the smart phone camera is a great image record maker and allows easy and quick distribution to others. Scanned images are easier to manipulated for publication with publication software, less so for phone pix.

You would need a higher end camera for copy purposes to avoid the distortion. Scanners are less expensive and those can include the home copier/printer combo. It just needs to be willing to send the image to you computer rather than just generate a paper copy.

This must be scanning season given all the posts on scanners.

Nitpicking, but a scanned image is a picture. You mean photo or photograph.
