I would welcome some help in distinguishing the different South Africa Scott #43 varieties (Gnu Stamp). Thanks in advance.

Some addtl details would be helpful.

Are you referring to Scott 201, 222, 222a, and/or 242?

If so, Scott 201 has a perforation of 15 x 14. And is watermark 201.

Scott 222 has same perforation. And watermark 330.

Scott 222a is redrawn. The numeral "1" is centered above the "s".

Scott 242 has same perforation. And is also watermark 330. But the denomination is cent, not pence.

However, if you're referring to the "wildebeest" issues the link provided by 22Crows should be helpful.

The OP asked for information on Scott #43, which shows gnu, also known as wildebeest.

Thanks 22Crows for clarifying. Was not aware these two animals are the same. Who gnu?

Thank you 22Crows, that website is very helpful. I'm just getting back to a lot of stamps I collected in my childhood (I'm 70) plus some stuff I inherited and I really need to reeducate myself about many things.

Calstamp; I like "who gnu"...lol

Here is an image I made for the Facebook Group - British Colonies Stamp Collectors. It is smaller here to fit the accepted image size, but it will show you the various versions of Scott (ST) 43 and how to sort them from each other. It also includes the South African Color Catalogue (SACC), Commonwealth (CW) and Stanley Gibbons (SG) numbers.
You can save the image to a PC and use Windows Image Viewer to make it larger if you want to see more detail.

@GeoffHa, you do realize that Dante reserved level 10 for punsters, yes?

One of the better puns,
I had a "Guffaw" when I read that.
