Winston, FWIW I had an item that according to USPS tracking was sitting in a distribution center without action for more than a week, then without update showed up at my doorstep. |

I had a similar issue earlier this year. It took 8 weeks for a package to go from Oregon to GA. Multiple times, Nashville, Atlanta, it sat for days. Numerous calls to the PO said it is coming but they have no guarantees on delivery. So I paid $75 shipping for this package and they bore no responsibility for service. The bottom line is I no longer ship or purchase from anyone that ships via the PO. Sending only letters. The PO is a mess. |

It is an item that I purchased on ebay and the seller sent it insured. That is a steal me sign in my opinion but I hope that isn't what happened. I will get my money back so no worries about that. I have had similar experiences but never with an insured item and never with an item that would sadden me as much as this item if it goes missing. |

I currently have an item I mailed from Chicago on 4/10, which was going to GA. According to the tracking it was received in GA on 4/14, but then mysteriously show up back in the Chicago area on 4/25. Not sure where it's really at. |

Have you tried getting on the computer and contacting customer service? I realize that can be as much of a joke as anything USPS does these days but maybe you get an answer. I had a registered letter from Latvia hung up in Chicago Customs for 3 weeks and contacted customer service. They actually followed thru on it. Though they said it was Customs and they had no control over it. The letter also escaped finally and is back in the mail stream so it might make it by tomorrow or Monday. |

A couple years ago I bought an item from a seller in Argentina. It was registered and seemingly had disappeared from the mail. Much like Dudley's experience, it just showed up one day more than two months later. Had gotten a refund for the item and everything.
I have seen some strange things but in many thousands of transactions I have only seen a couple of items actually go missing. Most of my stuff comes as plain first class mail though.

USPS says the GA tracking note was not really a scan, but something system generated???? They think it's in transit. Computer tracking - Summit, IL to Forest Park, IL, to Aroura, IL, to Atlanta, GA, then it shows in transit from Forest Park, IL. |

I see this behavior quite regularly. In the last month I had three items arrive somewhere halfway there and just stop for days and days. All but one have cleared. The one remaining arrived somewhere in Texas on April 15th and no sign of movement since. I do have insurance on this one. Fingers crossed I won't need to use it. |

Hi.
I just had a parcel come to me today that was mailed on 1/6.
I asked the post office about hits yesterday. What the clerk told me is that instead of scanning each parcel when it gets to a distribution center, they are scanning the container instead of the parcel itself.
I have many parcels from the last 2 months that are in this situation.
Its very frustrating!!

I had a priority mail package go missing last year. After attempting to use the missing mail feature a couple times, my local post office replied and told me they would deliver it when it arrived. Nothing further was ever done. I got my money back via ebay, but would have preferred a box of stamps. I am currently waiting on a package from Germany that was mailed on 4/7. Deutsche Post gives no information on the tracking number and all USPS shows is a "label created" message. Dale |

I've been having good luck with stuff from France and Germany lately; usually about two weeks to California. But I'm currently waiting for some considerably slower items from Greece and Spain. Unfortunately, they're normal mail, not tracked, so I have no idea where they're vacationing. |

I've been lucky with mailing from the UK to the States during the past few years with only two items stuck in Distribution Centers (going round and round in circles but not moving on) In both cases (Cleveland and Orlando) I called the DCs directly (not easy to find the phone numbers, for one of them I called the main PO for that city and asked for the number) and then asked for a Supervisor. Both times they did a manual search and the items were "released" the next day. Good luck, Steve |

You folks are pretty fortunate for the most part. I live in the Caribbean and our ordinary USPS ground mail gets funneled thru Puerto Rico, where it sits until they have enough mail to fill up whatever container they use to then barge it to my island. Some stuff gets here in 4-5 days, sometimes stuff shows up whenever Halley's Comet is due. You should see the crapshoot this becomes when it's an international delivery. That's why I always advise my family folks to send important things to me Priority Mail. Those actually do get here within the 3-day window.
But like some have described, I've had things seem to wander aimlessly around the continent, too. It's nuts. |
