In addition to the yin-yang on South Korean stamps, the name of the country starts with what looks like CH. That's how the H.E. Harris Stamp Finder explained it to me when I was a kid.
But the "CH" isn't really CH, of course. It's DAE (Daehan Minguk Upyo on the South Korean stamp shown), and the "KT" is really JO (Joseon Upyo on the North Korean stamps). Upyo in both inscriptions means "stamp".
