French Guiana A23 Hammock

*CV of theses stamps is pennies just to get out of the way*

I was just looking at a couple Scott #92-194 with minor inking issues
I think the one on the left is under inked and the one on the right is "kissed" in the top right?




I also came across one that appears the artists name is spelled wrong on a #194
under/over inked but the E looks like a lower case a

Opinion.
Just normal stamps, with evidence of varying ink viscosity,
Top right is considered "ink pull" by some.

Similar to when one pulls off paint masking tape at home, too early,
leaves drips or pulls paint off, leaving an unclear line.

These stamps were in use for quite a long time and there are likely many shade and inking variations, as well as dull plates. That said these 2 stamps could be from different dies as there are significant differences, however I personally have not been able to find useful info in catalogues that either mention different dies or that describe these differences.

The Maury catalogue may have better info however I don't own one.

Not desirable but entertainment for me
I suggested the stamp on the right was "kissed" I didn't really know what to call it
(I thought it looked like something touched it like the C brushed it but it's misplaced so not double)
remembering a post about this topic it felt that seemed fitting
But I will gladly accept your opinions rod if best described as "ink pull"

unfortunately there's not enough interest in cataloging just fun for the collectors

The first step, for your "fun" for such as these,
should be to Identify the printing method.
Typography would certainly give one, "ink pull"
Not sure about the others,
Lithography, Offset Litho, and engraved.

I believe I only seen it listed as engraved mind you I was using a dated Scott
Until I had to bring it back to the library (didn't recheck before I did)
I'll spend some time looking at trying to identifying the method of printing (good skill to learn)
Not sure if will bring "fun" or frustration without proper guidance

Seems easy enough....yet not so much

This set was definitely engraved, in 1947. Best guess is that they are inking variations.
