thought this was a neat cover with the 1859 paper and notes from New Orleans. What do you see here?

An aside: very typical for stamps used from New Orleans to be cut apart by scissors during this era.

Given the way in which the plate that produced 10-cent 1855 stamps was laid out, a vertical strip of three must have two or three different types.

I never really understood that was even possible. Mainly because I forget that 150 years ago things were done differently. Where by todays standards that would be a very rare find, yet expected to have multiple types in one run for 150 years ago.

This is why this place always keeps me returning. I'm always learning something about this amazing hobby.

I bought this block about 10 years ago - the top pair is Type III (#33) and the bottom pair is Type II (#32)

The various types of the 10c 1857 are spread out around the plate, so various pairs/strips/blocks are possible.

When the plates were being made, I fully expect the printers didn't think of the various entry reliefs as different - they were all 10c stamps. I expect they knew that they had different reliefs and that there were 'microscopic' differences between them, but they probably had no concern at all about which was which on the final plate. They were simply doing the best they could to fill orders of these stamps. The various types were discovered and classified by philatelists years after production.

A vertical strip of four from positions 65-75-85-95L1 would have all four types on the plate.
