Which Countries Never Issued CTO Stamps?

Please list countries that you know, with no CTO stamps.

PS: I am currently accumulating world wide collection. And would like to specialize (eventually) in some countries that don't have glut of CTO.

United States is one, for the greater part.

I think it's going to depend on your definitions.

If you're going to collect modern issues of the last couple of decades, CTOs are typical for non-mint stamps. At best, they are sold at face, sometimes included as a postage payment receipt for philatelic orders. For little British Commonwealth countries, CTOs may be close to the only way to get something approaching used (e.g., Ascension, Falkland Islands). Otherwise, certain values in a set may be extremely difficult to find postally used; somebody has to be saving them at their destination to pass on to collectors which isn't as common as it once was.

German and Swiss collectors often prefer CTOs since they show the cancel styles favored by them, socked-on-the-nose or lower corner quarter CDS.

A solution is to purposely collect stamps with postal cancels only. Since Togo has been a republic in the 1960s, it has churned out CTOs sold at heavy discount. But the stamps exist postally used if you want a challenge. Otherwise, you could just limit collecting to the French colonial period.

Still, in the past and today, favor cancels exist and can be hard to separate from postally used. Those can be considered by some to be in the same bag as CTOs. They can almost be as common as CTOs for specific issues.

Consider also Cocos Island and Australian Antarctic Territory stamps that can be postally used is Australia but are hard to find legitimately used from the named countries.

I think it comes down to how much the hunt means to you vs. just buying full sets to put into albums.

Uh, French colonies did CTO right from the start.

Just to give you a example ........I collect worldwide ,so my British Colonies are expensive to fill spaces in the modern area . I was at a stamp show in St. Louis and a dealer was selling FDC from around the world at 10 cents each and he tons of them . I noticed a lot of these covers had complete used sets on them . He was surprised when I purchased many hundreds from him . Would you call these modern FDC canceled CTO's ,these never when thru a post office . I would .

Britain generally hasn't used CTOs. On the other hand, it doesn't usually use proper cancellations any more …

I'd do the same as floortrader did. Life is too short and I'd replace with postally used ones where possible.

I've done the same with missionary mail from African French Community countries – can these still be bought as lots? The covers were basically philatelic in nature with all kinds of stamps, and rates made no sense for the most part. "Sensible" covers were kept intact but everything was all on still-disliked legal-size covers. I like 'em.

Looks like I have had this question on my head for a while now...lol.

USA & Canada looks like no CTOs. FDCs are whole different topic. I like them. But my question was just on stamps off paper. Mainly some middle east countres or south/central american countries have a whole lot of CTOs (look like large glossy stickers), not a fan.

The thing I try and avoid is "Philatelically used" stamps that is both stampscancelled to order which might still have full original gum. Stamps off First Day Covers, and stamps sent through the post just so someone can get the stamp in used condition. But if I can't recognise something as being off a FDC or as Sent specially I am satisfied. I'd also rather have a philatelically used stamp than a gap the collection bearing in mind that Philatelicaly used stamps are usually cheaper.
