The language is Hebrew, but it's not Israeli per se. It's a stamp/label for the Jewish National Fund (JNF), issued to raise funds and garner support for the Zionist movement in the first half of the 20th century. The picture is Chaim Weizmann, leader of the movement and later first president of Israel. |

Slightly off topic. Truman used the words "SOB" often. Once in reference to his haberdashery business partner he is quoted as saying the "greatest friend a president ever had, the sob never asks for anything" Until he did. He was Jewish and he asked Harry to meet with Chaim. Harry was under a lot of pressure from the military, the and almost all his advisors not to. His friend gently persisted. "Okay tell the sob I'll meet with him". Afterwards Harry reportedly said "he's the smartest person I have ever met" . Thereafter the recognition of Israel by USA was granted. Full story in Truman by Chernow. Off topic, sprang to mind with the stamp. Cheers |

This is a KKL/JNF stamp. JNF[in Hebrew KKL] is a charity that raises funds for Israel , often for planting trees. Stamps were issued by the JNF/KKL as receipts for charitable donations, and were not for postal use. However in the last days of the mandate and early days of the state there were no normal stamps available [or very poor supplies] so some of these Cinderella's were overprinted Doar[post] in Hebrew and used on letters. This one is not overprinted. The 3 Hebrew words on the bottom of your stamp start with K K L. |
