I would appreciate it if someone who knows its worth would tell me. I think its red color makes it a rare variation; I have only seen purple ones listed in stamp price guides.

Sorry to tell you, but the stamp is damaged. It has absorbed red dye. probably from being soaked off a Christmas card, or some other red envelope.

So, the stamp would only be worth whatever someone would pay for it, i.e. 5c or less in my opinion.

Please don't take offense to this, it applies to any of us as much as t does to you: the odds of you accidentally finding a rare or unique stamp is by nature slim. Finding one so drastically different than anything previously catalogued, astronomical. Doesn't keep us from looking, but ultimately we all know it's a romantic notion and not much more.

Specifically, you may notice along the left margin the uneven, blotchy coloring, indicating the red was not part of any original printing, and came later as bob described, above.

I have, from time to time, soaked stamps from Christmas card envelopes which were red. The dye stained the stamps red.
