Kindly I need your opinion about the attached roll of roosevelt 5 cent stamp roll . It is mint case . But they are stuck together and can only be removed by washing. Should I do ? Or leave it as it is ? And how much does it coast ? Thx
What is your plan regarding "cost?" Do you plan to sell the coil or keep it for your collection?
No gum mint is 50% or less the value with gum. As to the value of the stamps, the ones showing are not well centered but that can change as more are exposed via soaking.
Me, I would carefully soak it to release the coil and then when dry, carefully roll it back up. Also count the number of stamps as well as the number of line pairs. I believe this is more interesting as the complete coil strip rather than broken for singles, pairs and line pairs.
If selling, I think selling as the complete partial coil would work best.
I don't believe there is much that can be done. If you soak a coil roll you will have gum everywhere including the face of the stamps and it will be a miracle if you could unroll the coil without the wet stamps separating. Rolling it back up seems pointless with gum on both sides of the stamps and separated perfs. And if they are not separated by the time they have been soaked and dried they will when re-rolling is attempted. The stamps in VF condition are not that valuable ($7.50 per MNH pair) and the centering on these appears to be not very good at all.
Maybe keep it intact as a cautionary tale to store stamps properly.
About the only chance to completely removed the gum would be to rinse them under running water for quite some time while taking care as not to accidently cause perf separations in the coil strip as you allow the running water to access the inner coils. I agree with Roger, let the 'next guy' worry about it and leave it as is; I am not sure that you will add value by trying to change it's current condition. Don
