I remember these. They used to give them away with H.E. Harris album starter kits in te 60's. They can be dated by Copyright date and of course the last President pictured. They adjusted the top header based on the number of Presidents pictured. |

I remember these too as a kid. I had these and the sheets with all the nations flags. I also see them in antique stores these days and some dealers charge big bucks, but they tend to be clueless as to philatelic values. |

revstampman,
Was H.E. Harris bought out by another company? When I started collecting I remember buying some stamps from them. |

Oh, I don't find this unusual at all. Gold replica FDCs for $5-10/each are commonplace. My favorite so far was a collection of 6 of the U.S. Grandma Moses commemorative stamps, used for $20. Not worth 6 cents given the condition, but I really would like to visit the dealer with some bundleware of that issue and ask how much? "You have 6 of them, I have 5000 of them, make an offer?" I just hit a lot of the stores as it's something my wife likes to do too. Someone just needs to write a book, "Stamps and covers for antique dealers". Now where they tend to overprice common/damaged stuff, they tend to underprice expensive items so once in a blue moon I can a good find. Will |

My experience has shown that many antique dealers use the oldest date shown on a stamp as the date of origin. The older the stamp, the more money it is worth, of course. The same principle is also applied to old books and other items. Many of the antique dealers specializing in old post cards have a much more realistic and honest concept of dating their merchandise. Raywrio, H. E. Harris and Kenmore Stamps are one in the same. Harris bought Kenmore in the 1930's. They do most stamp marketing under Kenmore and Albums under the Harris name. |

revstampman, if that's the case concerning H.E. Harris and Kenmore, why is there still a Kenmore. Also H.E. Harris--at the least the name--still sells some stamp supplies (and coin supplies) and according to the information on some of the material is based in Florence Alabama.
The H.E. Harris of Boston, from whom I bought stamps as a kid no longer exists--at least that is my impression. |

Wasn't it H.E Harris that had their ads on matchbooks? That's the way I started to collect stamps around 1977. I didn't smoke but alot of my friends did and I would pick up the matches and look at the ads. I still have two of the bags from a Treasure company in California but I don't think their around many more either. Ah! memories. |

H. E. Harris has been discussed in a previous thread. https://goscf.com/t/5964. There's no simple answer where is H. E. Harris (the company) as various companies were bought/sold by Harris (the person). Later, the company went through bankruptcy, and eventually broken into bits and pieces, combined with other companies, and company names interchanged (kinda like SBC bought AT&T and then used the AT&T name). So you see a lot of current companies laying claim to the Harris history and continuation, including Kenmore (stamp sales), Whitman (coin supplies)... The Harris BNA is still being published and so are the albums, but I'm not sure who exactly owns the rights to them right now as I don't buy their current catalogs/albums. As far as I know, the actual company name, H. E. Harris, still exists, although I'm not sure how much of the original product line is still owned and operated/produced by them. |
