R135 changling or R135a Vermillion? The right hand stamp is in question. Note the lighter color of the paper on the right hand stamp. Can paper go thru a changling process also and how do the experts tell the differences?

Thanks in advance

It is fairly easy to spot a changeling - it has that awful brownish tint. Your stamp does not look like vermillion I am thinking

The stamp on the right is sulfurized, many call it oxidized.

To check on vermilion, obtain a Third Issue $2 or $5 stamp, Scott R145 or R148. They are vermilion. If you find a 2c that matches the color of the $2 or $5, you have the vermilion error.

Determining the R135a vermilion from online images is virtually impossible. Find a $2 or $5 from the third issue and put it side by side with the stamp in question. Those stamps are the vermilion in question. If the color shade matches, it's legit. The orange is decidedly different in hand.

EDIT: Oops, we posted at the same time. :)
