Hello all.

I have many duplicates of the Cuauhtemoc Monument stamps You can see a picture of one of my stock pages. The stamp comes rouletted and perforated - unwatermarked and wtmk 156. colors range from claret, brown lake, lake. Most of my stamps are rouletted with wmk.

I pulled two to scan that I was curious about - I have been going over some of my mounted stamps to find errors and correcting in my album.

One of the stamps has a color that looks almost light brown/tan - is this caused by extreme fading? it was the only one that I found in this condition. The others - well it is a challenge to know the shade :)

The second stamp has weird perfs to me. The top does not look rouletted but the sides do. I did read about the different types of rouletting - if I had to pick I would guess pin-rouletted. I would love your thoughts - these sure can be tough!

10c stamp "Cuauhtemoc" is part of the Definitive Series of 1923-1934 Places and Monuments. There's an article by Harry R. Day Hegg published on Mexicana (MEPSI's publication, October 2019) that gives you a Panoramic view of that postal issue. The Regular set Rouletted Unwatermarked started in 1923. What we can say is that it was largely printed. Nevertheless, the values of 2c, 5c, and 10c perforated 12 were very short printing runs, as these stamps are difficult to find. A relatively small amount was overprinted "OFICIAL". The estimated whole quantity printed for the 10c Carmine "Cuauhtemoc" is 730,000,000 (56,000,000 OFICIAL + 674,000,000 regular ones). You will find a wide range of colors, from bright carmine to brownish red, through orange-red. The quality of the paper was not consistent and the colors vary a lot! On the other hand, postmarks generally look neat & sharp. In my opinion, both images are rouletted.I hope I have clarified your question somewhat.

Muchas Gracias Mex Mex. Very helpful to know that there are so many different shades of this stamp and that paper seemed to also be inconsistent. Again appreciate the details in your response. Nora.
