Hi everyone,

Just go this inherited binder, and a bag full of other stamps. I've done some lurking around, and found some useful information on stamp smarter.

With so many stamps, I just figured I'd check to see there is anything crazy here, doubt there is. Some old letters in there as well - one says 1879.

Posted a link to the pictures since there were 50+ pictures.

Thanks!

My eye was caught by the pointing finger signalling return to sender.

Not as a rarity, but as something that may be of interest for other forum participants to look at and probably add to the database. Nice big one on an airmailed hotel envelope about halfway through all the photos.

OK, with due respect, you don't need to post pictures of everything. I suggest just picking a few things that look interesting to you, or that you have questions about, and take it from there…

Very very honestly, this is the kind of thing if you showed a dealer, they'd say, yeah sorry there's nothing I can do with this. Or they'd offer you 5 bucks simply because of the vario pages. I just wanted to be honest, no harm intended whatsoever. Do others agree?

It's the start of a collection if that's they way you wish to go with the material. I would suggest tossing all the damaged stamps. You might have an enjoyable evening or two with a perf gauge if you wanted to verify everything's identity. The 29c flowers are great, you can break them into pairs and they can grace your electricity bills for the next few months.

If you are interested in selling I might be interested. I know you can't receive emails due to being new on this site.

Welcome,

You received some good advice from some good members. I got into collecting as a child in the early '60s via a similar gift. I thought that I could expand on a few possible avenues for you.

Main choices:

A. Leave the collection for your grandchildren.
B. Give or donate it to someone who shows an interest.
C. Sell it for a token amount on Craigslist, Facebook, etc.
D. Start a collection.

If D., I would consider the following:

Put the stamped envelopes(keep the torn ones for now) together and call it your new "Cover" collection. Go to ebay to see others.

Assemble the stamps into general collections after tossing the damaged ones: Definitives, Commemoratives, Airmails, Back-of-Book(Postage Due, Special Delivery, Revenues, etc.) and foreign.

Start your stamp collection(s) by getting the following:

Free catalog from Mystic Stamp Co.

Perforation gauge
(esp. for your 1 and 2 cent Franklins and Washingtons)

Either a stamp album and/or more black Vario pages.

For online resources you can't do better than this Forum and Stamp Smarter. Later on you can seek out a stamp club in your area.

Hope this helps get you started. Good luck.

Greg K.

Thank you all for the advice. I'll do some more "digging" and try to identify some these stamps.
