this is curious item. douane usually refers to a revenue issue. this looks like it has an 1808 date? is this a south africa issue or somewhere else.

"Douane" means customs. This is a customs tax stamp of France of 1897, listed in the Forbin catalog which can be found on the Stamp Smarter site.

What makes this very interesting is the Poste Cherifienne cancel, which makes the usage from French Morocco. Genuine use? Maybe someone else can confirm.
