This is another area I enjoy collecting / researching: Ireland town cancels.

Askeaton (Irish: Eas Géitine, Waterfall of Géitine, also historically spelt Askettin), is a town in County Limerick, Ireland. The town on the N69, the road between Limerick and Tralee, is built on the banks of the River Deel some 3 km upstream from the estuary of the River Shannon.

Among the historic structures in the town are a castle dating from 1199 and a Franciscan friary dating from 1389. The castle was abandoned to the English in 1580 – its walls blown up by the fleeing defenders – after the fall of Carrigafoyle Castle during the Desmond Rebellions. Askeaton was a constituency in the Irish House of Commons represented by two members until the dissolution of the parliament in 1801.

I also collected Irish cancels for many years. It is now almost impossible to get a cancellation mark from a post office. All mail is taken to a few regional centres.
To some extent, postmarks have been replaced by Stamps on A Roll ie stamps that are actually printed at a post office counter. Each post office has a unique 4 digit number which identifies the post office eg Askeaton is 0211 and often shows up in kiloware.
My wife and I were on the N69 in September. It is a coastal road which is on the southern shoreline of the River Shannon. We were in Askeaton for a few minutes so that I could photograph the post office.
It is a few kilometres from Foynes, another coastal village which was the port for transatlantic flying boats. There is a museum there.

WE were in County Kerry for five days and I photographed all of the 45 post offices in the county.

The number of post offices has declined......around 1,400 ten years ago and currently about 933 active post offices. I have SOARs issued in 928 of them so only five still to obtain.
I have photographed 602 post offices. It is unlikely I will be able to take pics of them all as some are very remote. But hopeful I can complete the SOAR collection. If you would like to more, I write about them a lot on my Blog (link is in my profile)

FitzjamesHorse - Thanks for the reply and information. I look forward to visiting your blog.

I used to share on another forum years ago and had an Irish stamp friend (and his wife) who would help me with translations I could not figure out.

I was lucky enough to come into a few accumulations of on paper and bundles that have given me many nice cancels.

I enjoy digging into the history of the towns.

Here is a page I had worked on back then. Now need to find the translation page I'd done for them.

pat

Nice display.
The Irish Post Office used to produce a Guide which included translations.
I had two 1971 and 1981 but I loaned the 1981 edition to someone and I never saw it again.
The older edition had older spellings. I still have it.
I arranged my collection by County.
Later tonight I will scan a page (County Limerick) on to my blog.
