Linn's Stamps News emailed this reward notification yesterday. I cropped the phone number off the bottom. $50,000 reward for a single FDC album stolen from a garage in 1969? This has to be some sort of joke. Robert

I suppose the only way this makes sense is if Fritz had some of the earliest FDCs, which mostly retail in the 5-6 figures range each. Or, perhaps, it is a box of FLEETWOOD facsimile classic FDCs, which are to all appearances (unless you look on the back) extremely rare and valuable... John |

It is possible that this was a family heirloom and the family is willing to pay dearly for its return. Don |

Who would actually expect to find a collection stolen 50+ years ago? It's possible that some covers with the proper address might be found, but it would be all but impossible to trace them anyway. |

I'm thinking the collection had something really valuable along with some identifiable FDCs. After 50 years, I don't think the valuable item(s) and the FDCs are still together.

Anything really valuable is often identifiable to some degree, and something would have been recognized by now. This strikes me as someone looking for attention. |

If this is a valid reward, perhaps some of the first day of issue envelopes were prior to the cacheted era, going back to the early 1900's? There are some FDCs and EDUs worth $1000's and more. |

But would those scarce early FDC's have been addressed to the person named above? And if not, unless there are photos and/or certs for them, how can anyone prove they are the stolen ones? I am still wondering why this would show up again after all this time; if nothing has turned up by now, why would anyone expect that to suddenly change? Almost all of the dealers working in that era are long gone or retired, practically everyone currently working started after that time. And how many collectors would tell them at this point if they had a valuable and important cover that might have been a part of the collection? One cover would not be likely to bring the reward, so..... |

A bit of research shows that the owner was a boy at the time of the theft and is now very successful. This could very well be a sentimental thing. A connection to the past. Who knows? There are things that I would give a lot to have back to relive some great memories. |

1st day of issue covers can be very valuable, 1st day black penny cover would cost a lot, same goes for many other countries.

True about much earlier ones, not likely or not at all to have been addressed to one person. However, if they were newer (30's - 40's) Dorothy Knapp, Beazell or Mae Weigand, they could have tremendous value! |

True, although Beazell covers do not appear to be bringing as much as they once did. |

Good points, revcollector. Overall, most likely sentimental or just advertisement looking for eyes. |
