This appears to be easy to me to spot. Believe me ... I still have problems with #500 id'ing. But back to the subject line: I "think" this is a good example of mixed types I and II join line pair for Scotts 599A. Please let me know if the scans are good enough.

The left one is the 599A and right one is the normal 599.
Heavy hair and gap are clearly visible on the left one.
If you need closer pics, please let me know. |

A clear image of the hair on George's head of the left stamp is what is needed. It well might be a combination pair, but the stronger line of the design below the U is not enough to prove it from the current image. |

I will hopefully have something else soon to ask Q's and tips about. I am waiting on it to come back from expertising in the mail. It was the "other on-piece" Helbock Scarcity 8 that I mentioned in the COVERs "on-piece" thread and was part of the 1000s. Pretty cool and best find ever (for me).
This community has been a lot of good feedback, direction, guidance. I have enjoyed the "analysis of various subjects" |

For clarity, the reference to the R=8 cancel (from Bec Scies, MI) is at the top of page 2 of this thread: https://goscf.com/t/79838&whichpage=2Although monetary considerations might not be the best measuring tool, I would differ in my opinion of your "best find" as a used 599A/599 pair catalogs at $1000, while a clipping of an R=8 cancel is worth perhaps about $3-5, far less than the cost of its certification. |

If I am right, you donate $50 to SCF and if I am wrong, I donate $50 to SCF. |

If it is not doctored, then I don't think there is any doubt that it is a mixed-type LP.
Doctored stamps are like plastic surgery in one respect - are they "10 foot stamps" or are they "3 inch stamps"? For this LP, it looks to be a "10 foot stamp" - it looks fine from waaaay too far away. Is it still going to stand up when we are able to look at it close up?? Who knows? It passes the initial test, now send it off to the PF for a cert and see what they think it looks like from 3 inches away. |

To everyone that has so far contributed and commented: A big thanks! I work nights and just got off work about 2hrs ago... so thanks for your patience with this subject and the other one (which I will take pictures of and put on the other thread when it comes back). I am not trying to be shady or spooky about it... I have said nothing about it on purpose while it was being expertized (out of respect and professional kindness) so they did not get bothered by anyone that knew them and they could study, poke, prod and lift (if needed). I will take pics as soon as I get it back and post on the other stream in covers.
On the other downright fun challenge for a wager! Wow tempting because I have identified many 599A and 634A stamps (being a bulk collector... mostly of old stuff). I also over the years believe I have found 3 of the 599A/599 and 599/599A mixed joint line pairs (I can readily find two and will post them today) My son is going to help me post a clearer picture soon. But I will not take the money ... although it would go to a very worthy cause. :) I have not had this much fun in stamp intrigue, challenge and conversation in such a long time! Refreshing! |

Thank you Rogdcam! You are first to see any and I really did not think/believe it so ... I needed to run one of them by somebody (in this case several somebody's that know much more than me. Thanks for confirming what I pretty strongly suspected and did not think that spending $40-50 for expertizing was necessary since they were easy to identify. I did find my 3rd one. Here is a picture of all 3. These were found as I went through bundles and boxes over the last 20+ yrs. |
