Here is Ireland 30p Blackbird, Scott 1113F, a booklet stamp perforated 10 3/4 x 13. Scott says this stamp was issued May 3, 2001. For Ireland's definitive stamps, I use a 2009 Hibernian catalog for identification. I cannot find an entry for this perforation variety in that catalog. May 2001 is one month before Ireland started issuing definitives with dual Irish/Euro currency denominations. Can anybody determine what I have here? Perhaps it is listed in a later edition of the Hibernian catalog. Thanks, Robert P.S. Between the two catalogs, I calculate there are 14 different varieties of the 30p Blackbird (not including the dual currency and Euro issues). Whew!

I use Gibbons specialised Ireland 5th edition. There is a blackbird stamp from a booklet with (per Gibbons) a perforation of 11x13. Gibbons do not have a specific date of issue but they list it as April 2001. Same stamp? |

That sounds like the same stamp. Is it possible to get an excerpt from the Gibbons catalog for that stamp and any booklet siblings? I can create a custom album page using the Gibbons data.

Hello Robert, I have the 2020 edition of Hibernian. They do indeed list a Re-Issued Booklet stamp with phosphor frame issued April 25, 2001 and printed by Questa. I hope this scan is helpful. I would say your stamp is D170bpiA |

FitzjamesHorse & Brad905, thank you for your responses. Now I'm considering upgrading my Hibernian and looking into the Gibbons Ireland catalog. I have some lingering questions regarding the Flowers definitive series, but that's for another thread. Robert |

In the 2009 Hibernian, it, already, was listed as 170bpi, but with an incorrect perforation gauge. The stamp book HB67ap was listed with issue date "2001 (March ?)."
Interestingly, on page 173 of the 2020 edition that "2001 (March ?)" has not been corrected to reflect the date of 25 April 2001 given as date the stamp - only available from that stamp book with a completely new barcode - had been issued. |

Thanks Brad905! Very helpful posting.
The incorrect information in the 2009 Hibernian doesn't instill confidence. |

It would be fanstastic if NSK would do an article on how to identify all of the Ireland Bird issues. His other articles on Ireland and Netherlands were spot on great. |

Quote: It would be fantastic if NSK would do an article on how to identify all of the Ireland Bird issues. His other articles on Ireland and Netherlands were spot on great I'll second that motion! He's probably forgotten more about Irish stamps than I know. I got myself into a pickle with the Bird Issues. I made the pages to conform with the Hibernian Catalog. It made more sense to me than the mess Scott has. Just one problem for me. (I'm sure you can see it coming..) Of course, no one sells Irish stamps listed with the Hibernian # so I can't fill my empty spaces. A translation from Hibernian# to Scot# would be terrific! I could work with a SG#. Anything is better than sorting through the Scott Catalog. Dan |

I put together a Scott-Hibernian cross-reference for the Ireland Bird issues, but it is based on the 2009 Hibernian with some updates from this topic. I'm willing to share it, just need to incorporate some outstanding changes and it will be ready to go.
