There seems to be plenty of news about Post Office closing, but very little about Post Office openings.

Now we have a post office in the town of Weems Virginia that is going to open ... sometime soon.

Here is a picture of the building .... note that there is no address or ZIP Code posted on the outside of the build yet ... 22576.

Weems VA used to have a PO at one time, but the location was closed when the building owner sold the house being used for the post office .

After searching 4 years for a new location for the Weems PO which was on Weems Road (there are only about 4 streets in the actual town, they found a vacant lot location on James Lane and put a trailer on it for the new PO.

I have talked with the current servicing post office (Irvington VA) about the potential for obtaining 'First Day of Operation' ... but no word yet.

If there is any interest I will update on the status.

The USPS is a mystery wrapped in an enigma. Seems has a population of 1840 souls. Given the cost of the new infrastructure and staffing that outlay will never come close to being recovered.

I think how older post office architecture was described. I guess this is Neo-trailer.

Normally I would say, why does it need to be recovered? It is infrastructure providing a public service like an interstate highway. We don't ask whether we recovered the cost of the last cloverleaf interchange that we built. However, the office at Irvington is less than 6 miles or 10 minute drive away, so I tend to agree with Rog. Perhaps a Congressman or Senator "leaned on" the USPS to toss "pork" into their district or state.

Like the office from 4 years ago, this is likely rented.
A very modest percentage of PO's are in government-owned buildings these days.
