I can't add this to one of the '1c Plate Threads' as I am unsure what plate it is from. The stamp was scanned at 2400 so what you see is the best you can get...sorry. Tried plating this one but to no avail. It could be a Plate 5 but there are many with no known photos. Any help is certainly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

And a couple close-ups:

Hey Caper, have you looked at plate 7?
On your copy on the shoulder underneath the ink going north to south in a straight line, there looks like there could be something under that.

Don't think it's big enough to be a shoulder curl on the F reliefs of plate 7, but you also have a really bright image. You might try reducing your brightness on your scans, and it might be easier to see some smaller marks and scratches.

There is a decent match for the large scratch you have in Orn H on Doporto's with 57R7, but the right scroll is I think telling me it's Row 10, not Row 6.

Then again, I may be way off with plate 7. The lower left corner is a pretty big mess, with a lot of mottling, so that's why I looked at plate 7 first.

Hope I didn't cause more confusion here, and hope it's helpful.
Ray

Ray - Using your guidance I bounced around the bottom row 'F' reliefs on plate 7 and ... drum roll... believe I have found a match! [ 98L7 ]. Though the cancellation landed in some of the more inopportune places for plating it matches up nicely with the 98L7 image on the Stamp Smarter website provided by Douglas Kouril. Thanks Ray!

These were listed for sale as a 24 strip, but I think these are 23's, but are they ALL 23's? I don't even know which positions 23's, etc are found in.

I don't know where to begin to be sure. I see lots of plating references for type I-IIIa but nothing for type IV. Wasn't sure which forum/topic to put this in.

Thanks -Jim

Lovely strip. Yes, they are type IV stamps. Try posting them on the plate 1 late thread, should be able to plate the strip easily.

You might try some of the guides there to help you in identifying the types.
These stamps are recut and are Ty IV, from Plate 1L as stallzer noted.
They are Scott #23.
