I had a big box of stuff I have accumulated over the years which I didn't actively collect, stuff like plate blocks, FDCs, worldwide stamps, etc. I started thinking about expanding my Back of the Book collection a bit, so I went through the loose stamps in this box and found a few revenues that I didn't catch earlier. In addition, I found these three stamps pictured below.

These look like Local Stamps, which I know very little about. The one on the left says "Jenkins Camden Dispatch", but looking in the Local Stamps section of my US Specialized album, the only stamps of this design are in black ink, and this one is clearly green. It does have gum on the back. The others both look like 18L1 to me.

All of these were just loose among other stamps, so they weren't specifically separated as being valuable stamps. I try and never assume a random stamp I find is valuable, but the Bouton's City Dispatch stamps look pretty dead on to me. Is it worth it to send these off to be expertized, or are they obvious fakes? Thanks!

PS: Wasn't sure if this qualified as US Classics or Back of the Book, apologies if posted in wrong forum.

Agreed, non-genuine material abounds. The Scott Specialized catalog is a poor reference for locals. If you are going to make any serious effort at them, one must obtain Larry Lyons' monumental 3 volume work: "The Identifier for Carriers, Locals, Fakes, Forgeries and Bogus Posts of the United States". It is not inexpensive, but will quickly save-back its cost by alleviating the need for certificate-fishing. The fakes, forgeries, reprints, etc., are still quite collectible in their correct context.

I'll put in another vote for the Larry Lyons books I picked up a album of back-of-the-book material that had a few pages stuffed with locals a couple years back. I bought the Lyons books and his price list. I was able to identify every one of them with his books. None of my stamps were authentic locals that you could assign a Scott number to. But many had some value and I was able to sell a few. The Lyons books are quite amazing and quite comprehensive.

Ah, I think maybe there was a miscommunication, and I'm sure it's my fault. I really don't have any intention of keeping these as a start of a Local Stamps collection. I have enough to keep me busy with my current collecting areas, and frankly I don't think I'll ever have the budget to make any headway into a Local Stamps collection. I just stumbled upon these and was hoping someone might know about them, or could point me to some good resources to do my own research. While I'm sure the recommended book could probably answer all of my questions, I think it's overkill for me to go out and acquire this book to only then need info off of a couple of pages to answer my questions.

I guess for now I'll file these away in a drawer somewhere on the off chance I either find a copy of this book or happen upon enough other Local stamps to make it worth my money to investigate further. I appreciate the recommendations.

Here's what I can tell you. None of them are original. There are over 30 varieties of each of these stamps. To identify them accurately requires a good magnifying lens or a very very high resolution scan.
