My daughter and I are pretty new to this and were not the best. But any help would be appreciated. We're trying very hard. I know the one with writing is supposed to be accurate as a 94 but the 2 on the outer ends seem larger to me. It could be condition. Secondly is it possible for a grill just have an outline left. basically it's so thin that nothing but the impression is left?

Thanks. yes we've been looking, reading and measuring using.... This https://stampsmarter.org/learning/I...8Grills.html but these outer two don't conform to the commonality of what I figured they'd be.

That's the answer I figured we'd get. Thanks again. javascript:insertsmilie('')

AS a guess it looks like two F grills and then two E grills - but would need individual images well lighted (best to be in a dark room with a light shining obliquely on the grill for a good image.)

What do you think you are seeing that is different from the description on stampsmarter?

trying to measure with this is not the best. our other calipers are too sharp to trust near these, I'm too afraid they'll damage the stamps. So I was not sure what we were seeing as we both would come up with different each time. I'll get better scans here shortly. Ruler/end of perf gauge was different each time too.

Measurement is not the most important thing to know. Getting a rough measure is good enough. There are basically 3 aspects of grills that make them easy to identify. Most grills are downward facing - meaning the bumps are on the back. That's one aspect - we can mostly ignore. Second is the number of vertical columns. Third is the direction - vertical or horizontal ridges on the grill points. All yours appear to have vertical ridges - though the last one is questionable. So that leaves only the number of columns. The first two seem to have 12 columns. The second two seem to have 14 columns.

downward facing points, vertical ridges, 12 columns = F grill
downward facing points, vertical ridges, 14 columns = E grill
