Hi Paul,
Supplements to Rod's description of your hand engraved (etched) documentary revenues;
- 1 Sen Black:
5th Issue, multiplicative printing, wide margin, foreign paper, perforated. Hasegawa No. 28 (in Hasegawa, 2019).
Official date of issue is September 1st, Meiji 7 (1874), but the earliest appearance is known to be Meiji 12 (1879).
Formerly known as Furuya No. 29 ("4th Issue, Foreign Paper, perforated" in Furuya, 2011), Shimomura No. 49 ("3rd Issue, color change, foreign paper, perforated" in Shimomura, 1981), Barefoot No. 22 ("Third Issue (Group C)" in Barefoot 2006).
Your example seems to be perf. 10.
This stamp has been formerly categorized as "4th Issue, Plate XV and plate XVI" by Furuya in his catalogue (Furuya, 2011) , whereas Hasegawa has reorganized the categorization of the 4th issue and created a separate group (5th Issue), where the multiplicative printing method (same technique for Koban stamps) were used.
- 5 Sen brown;
Very likely to be 3rd Issue (transitional issue), native paper, perforated. Hasegawa No. 17 (in Hasegawa, 2019)
Your example seems to have perf. 13 x 11.
It is a bit tough to decide from the image whether the paper is native paper (e.g. Japanese laid paper) or foreign paper (e.g. normal wove or porous paper), but the rather long fibers extruding from some of the perforations may strongly suggest it's native paper. Also this combined perforation (13 x 11) is typical to the 3rd issue, and extremely rate for foreign paper.
Formerly known as Furuya No. 25 ("3rd Issue (native paper, perforated)" in Furuya, 2011), Shimomura No. 45 ("3rd Issue, native paper, perforated" in Shimomura, 1981), Barefoot No. 18 ("Third Issue (Group B)" in Barefoot 2006).
- 10 Sen blue;
5th Issue, multiplicative printing, wide margin, foreign paper, perforated. Hasegawa No. 30 (in Hasegawa, 2019) - likely to be plate 2.
Formerly known as Furuya No. 31 ("4th Issue, Foreign Paper, perforated" in Furuya, 2011), Shimomura No. 51 ("3rd Issue, color change, foreign paper, perforated" in Shimomura, 1981), Barefoot No. 24 ("Third Issue (Group C)" in Barefoot 2006).
Date of issue, printing method is identical to the 1 Sen black described above.
This stamp has four (4) different shades as shown below, and your example seems to be (a bit faded) steel blue (needs confirmation)
