After purchasing Lighthouse binders , pages and supplements for over 50 years for US, UK and Israel …..

Found out that effective for 2022, Lighthouse is dropping Israel
As a country . I am shocked at this , assume it's about popularity of the country and not collecting in general but who knows .

Anyone have experience or own SAFE albums for their US or what have you ? If so , what do you like or dislike about their system as opposed to the traditional mount in Scott hingeless ?

Thanks !

Huh. Didn't know they were dropping Israel. Doesn't affect me (I don't collect anything past the early '50s generally), other than signaling I better get that '48-'59 page set ASAP, but does seem to align with Leuchtturm's tendency to withdraw from everywhere that doesn't isn't Europe, Anglo-North America, or China. I remember when they had Japan...
Maybe they're just ceding that entire geographic space to Lindner, who seems to have a growing Asia offering? Latin America is also grossly neglected.

I am taking a hard look at SAFE as they seem to be the best alternative to Lighthouse . You are correct , LH has cut back a lot over the decades . I still love their layouts in US and. UK and overall quality . I don't think DAVO , Lindner , Palo or even Schaubek for Scott US can hold a candle . As I have so much invested in LH , might have to use their LB pages
And make do . And is it me , or does a SAFE page look like an overpriced stock book page . No layout , no artistry , just stamps in a line

I suppose they have to be like that because of the page technology. One thing you can do with the Safe/Lindner-type pages is mount a used copy on the image beneath the plastic, which may or may not appeal. Isn't there also some unused space amidst the plastic that can be used to add the odd variety?

It's not just you, I too don't like the lack of effort by several of these firms: put three to five stamps in a row, and overlay a strip of plastic across the whole row, then repeat . Meh. May as well just use Vario pages and save the money, the look is almost the same.
LB pages and something like AlbumEasy might very well be the way to go.

Yeah, but IMO that just looks haphazard and sloppy, like a small child attacked it. Seeing two, three, or ten varieties or copies of a stamp all crowded on a page totally triggers me. I put varieties on a separate page, a bit like an appendix.

Looks like they're dropping Hungary, too.

The SAFE/Lindner 2-part pages are absolutely wonderful IMO.

  • You also can jot notes in pencil on the printed page under the stamp without impacting the presentation.

  • The "shelf" construction of these pages provides extra room for insertion of varieties, multiples, extras, etc.

and most importantly (IMO):

  • You can easily examine the backs of stamps without risking damage to the stamp by removing from and re-inserting into the mount.

It's nice to see how great the span of ways we all collect. I don't do or like any of those things, Rev.
