It appears that there is a new Monopoly game available this year.

Quote:
Celebrate a historical hobby enjoyed by philatelists around the world with a custom collection you can take out and play!

Created in collaboration with USPS, MONOPOLY: U.S. Stamps Edition lets players buy, sell, and trade the most memorable stamps from U.S. history!

Six USPS-inspired tokens will keep players connected to their trusty means of communication, such as a Mail Truck, Mail Box, Package, Postcard, Coil of Stamps, and USPS Eagle. Instead of Houses and Hotels, set up Post Offices and Distribution Centers to move revenue, as Chance and Community Chest cards called Special Delivery and Rain Heat & Snow create detours.

Keep your assets in superb condition to stick it to the competition and win!

I see it is being sold on Amazon, WalMart, and a number of other retailers for around $35-$45. I have not yet played this version but thought I would mention it here.

Cool concept but …
"lets players buy, sell, and trade the most memorable stamps from U.S. history!"

I looked at some images and I'm not sure I'd call any of those the most memorable US stamps lol. If nothing else, where is the Jenny and the beautiful engraved issues from earlier years. Oh dear.

Since the USPS cooperated in the development of the game, it is natural that the USPS wants to promote a good image by focusing on stamp designs that reflect a dynamic, positive agency, to induce people to buy stamps and use USPS services now, rather than focusing on historic images.

An interesting individual or stamp club project would be producing an accessory kit of replacement labels for the game board that show classic era stamps.

At least none of the stamps on the game board was canceled by a "marker monkey." Maybe one of the replacement labels should show that.

Actually, since I posted this morning, I have been looking into working up a new stamp game like above but for more of the classic era stamps (perhaps world-wide). I would offer PDF files which could be used to print out labels which could be applied to any older Monopoly game board. There would be PDFs for the 'Deed' cards, for the money, and for the 'Chance' cards. I am looking into which Avery labels and 'snap and divide' cards and would be supported but my PDF files. The PDfs would be a free download, folks buy their own Avery labels and Avery card stock to print out the PDFs. You would then apply the labels onto the old Monopoly board. I am looking into alternatives to teh 'hotels and houses' pieces too.
