I just saw while googling something else, that Stanley Bierman died in January this year. Most may know him as author the The Worlds Greatest Stamp Collectors.

But for me his best contribution was his filming of philatelic personalities, many whom have died since the filming.

Anyone new to the hobby and/or interested in seeing some of the movers and shakers in the hobby from the recent past should see the DVDs. Many of those who were interviewed also gave insight into philately in decades of the past.

The quality of DVDs is certainly not the best as they were made when VHS tape was the recording medium. But I just enjoyed seeing and hearing some of the history our hobby.

The APS has the DVDs.

I have volume 1 of that book. A very enjoyable read.

The DVDs sound interesting.

Thinkstamp ----- Next book you need to get is the " Avery Collection -The postage stamps of the World " . It gives a first person account of the man and his collection . Again a good read ,short but a first person account .

Thanks, floortrader, for the suggestion of the book on 'the Avery collection - the postage stamps of the world'.

I'll have to check it out.

It's enjoyable to read about others who collect and find their motivations.

Thinkstamp ---Agree with you about reading how others collect but the motivation would be more difficult to figure out .
