Shermae --- Hope to put some of those stamps here ,when I start taken that album apart over the next few months .
Ray ---Just checked my stuff and only have one copy of Algeria #46 , I read a article once and it said the hardest country to fill was Cape Juby in the Vol. 1, My album for pre-1940 Vol.1 still needs a few hundred stamps ,but if ever filled puts over a $30,000 value to it . |

"Some of those will probably be pesky ones "
That is a problem that some of us don't want to discuss with you and others , it is like I feel comfortable telling you which ones ,only after I bought and received MY COPY . Many of us don't want any competitions during our hunt for that elusive stamp.
The risk is that some clown will take the list of pesky and elusive stamps and then sweep thru the internet and buy those stamps {which are already in short supply } only . to double or triple the price , with them knowing what other collectors need .
Has this happen before ? Yes it has .In early days of the stamp chat rooms . We had a discussion about a certain Central Americian special delivery stamp and how hard it was to find it . This guy went out and purchased like 34 of them ,there by making it difficult for 33 other collectors to get the stamp . He was paying two to three times catalog for it .
So if I am hunting for a stamp ,I keep my mouth shut with others . |

As far as I know, the scarcest Algerian stamp is Yvert 137A/Maury 155A, the 90c rue de Casbah of August 1939, which will be a lasting gap in my Algeria pages. Someone once showed a copy on here. Probably not provided for on Scott Speciality pages. The first type of the 20Fr of the 1946 air issue, which was later retouched, is tricky. I found my toned copy (on the left) by accident when moving a pile of stuff to an ebay job lot. |

Somehow true - making stamp collectors somehow "non-social-beeings".
Once you like to buy your stamps any competitor will easily tripple the price (if the dealers don't "cooperate").
On the other hand, a one-piece-in-the-world of a stamp can fetch from $800 to $10Mio depending how popular the area is.
I am happy to now finally arrive as a world-wide collector.
I believe that serious world-wide collecting is only possible with wide access to philatelic knowledge through the www. |

GeoffHa --- Nice find ,agree it doesn't show up in my Scott Internationals but does show up on the Scott Speciality pages and has space on the Steiner pages for the two types .. |

Quote:I just checked ebay and both #46 and B16 are available. Found an Algeria #46 on ebay, so thanks for the heads up Ken. But, he wants $4.70 (but there is free shipping) for a $1.60 stamp ($2.40 if NH). A lot of stamps out there can be found, but there are a lot of unreasonably-priced sellers out there also. Seems like that's a growing trend on both ebay and Hip. I'm not at the point yet with my Big Blue where I'm going to pay 2x CV. I'm over 30,000, but there is a lot to go yet, and I'm assuming that at some point, I'll have to overpay. Ray |
