Thank you floortrader. You are always supportive of the newer members. Where are your binders with steiner pages? I remember them being in 1.5 inch binders

ARAGORN ---- All my Steiner Pages are in white notebook binders with those "D" rings . I use 1/2 ,1 inch and 1 1/2 binders ,With those rings the pages lay flat and stops the sliding around of the pages cause by round ring binders .

My label maker broke a while ago and never replaced it ,so I used the white medical tape to write and stick on the binders with the country name written on them ,so that's why no pictures until I buy a better label maker .

The best advice I received (from a long ago web post) to start out on the world was to get ahold of a used remnant collection of a loose-leaf Scott International 1840-1940 with a few thousand or so stamps in it.. Many stamps are plentiful and cheap and one can fill many spaces in that book without a large payroll.

LANDOQUAKES ---- No recent photo because everything with my Steiner Pages and the white binders are in a transitional mess , there not in any order on the bookcase . I have duplicate binders , binders with medical tape country names on them ,so give me a few months before I can make a A-Z order of my Steiner Pages ,.Also have more Green Scott speciality albums with recent purchases .

Well I finally made a decision and got the Steiner membership. Now need to go get the paper I'm going to use. I like the look of what Floortrader uses. Do you mind stating again what your using? I thought after I get the paper I could do 3 hole punch and consistent black d-ring binders. Also do you use 8 and 1/2 by 11? I like to mount stamps. I know that can get expensive but do you guys do 1 sided or 2 if your mounting? also what is the best advice for keeping track of what I have I need to get a spreadsheet or something. I figure I could do Excel but there has to be a better way. Im trying to get all my bases covered so I can start making serious progress and started sharing some photos. Thank you for all the help. KyleB ------ Buy a heavy duty 3 hole puncher , for paper you need to pick a color , I like pastel ,cream color paper it cost about $13.00 for 500 sheets , I have a friend who uses high-bright white but try a few different to what you like . You can up grade the paper but it will cost more .
I use 20lb paper but a lot of collectors use heavyier paper the next paper is 24 lb paper ,even collectors go higher up to card stock . Remember just because I like light weight paper for pages not everybody likes it . Don't use 20lb paper if your using a lot of black mounts ,the paper is too thin .
Forget doing two sided paper printing it doesn't save you much money for the problems you will have ..

I can't help you about knowing what you have or tracking your inventory , because I have no clue what I have all I can say what binders I have ....

I would not buy cheap paper. 32lb and cream. Cotton if possible. You are already saving money just using Steiner pages. I also would get a binder with a slipcase if you have any stamps with value. Slipcases are underrated. 32 lbs will still hold mounts while still feeling like soft paper. Agree with Floortrader on double sided. It is a waste of time and energy. Read DrewM posts on storage on this forum for insights as well. You get what you pay for with paper. Scott paper and Palo paper are expensive because they are truly archival paper.

Printing on both sides seems to create a world of complexity. I've mentioned elsewhere that, if your paper is thick enough, you can place your used copies of stamps in matching positions on the facing blank page - i.e. the back of the previous page. You'd need to use mounts, however.

I don't have a big stamp collection (after years and years of focusing on postal history) but it's growing, with focus on Europe and colonies. With some exceptions, I try to stick to complete sets, and only mint.

I use Steiner pages (unless I buy a collection that has a good clean useable album; I'm not a stickler for consistency) and office supply binders (I use a variety of different things but will someday make it more consistent - I like the idea of D ring binders.

I print on regular copy paper (20lb) and haven't had any issues. One sided is definitely the way to go, and I use clear hawid mounts on everything. I have started tracking in excel (separate file for each entity, which operates as an inventory and includes columns for the number of stamps and catalog values). It is burdensome to get set up, and it slows the process of mounting new material, but it makes keeping track of what you have and what you need much easier going forward. I try to spend a little bit of time as many days as I can working on it.

I got my paper today 32 pound in an ivory color looks the same as the pastel this was the best option at the Staples in my area. I tried printing my first Steiner pages and there is an issue with the boxes and printing being off center. If you look closely at my photo you can see the boxes aren't right and this is bothersome to me. I tried 3 different times and different pages. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? Thanks.

That looks more like an issue with the printer than the Steiner page software. Notice the jagged text in "1948-1952" in addition to the boxes.

What weight paper can your printer support? A quickie google inquiry says "A typical inkjet printer can support paper weighing between 20 and 28 pounds, which is considered standard office paper weight. ... Some printers can handle heavier paper like cardstock up to 32 pounds (120 gsm)." Maybe your printer is having trouble feeding the 32 pound paper. Does the same issue persist on standard printer paper as well or just the cardstock? Does it jitter at the same place on every page?

I made this page with albumeasy worldcollector pages to mimic my Scott international pages.Big blue has space for only 8 out of 12 stamps.

Agree that this is likely a printer issue... seems like a paper shift is happening during the feed process.

I printed some Steiner pages for my modern US collection. Nothing fancy, just 3 hole punched, slightly thicker paper. My laser printer was able to handle the weight of the paper, but if yours can't, maybe look into getting them done at Staples? No idea what the pricing would be, but perhaps it's more economical than getting a new printer, depending on how many pages you're looking to print.

As always, bear in mind that you will never recoup the cost of albums, pages, binders, etc. if/when it comes time to sell; the value (almost always) drops to near zero, as the buyer will rehouse the stamps themselves. This is especially the case with custom-designed and -printed pages.

That said, if you derive pleasure from making and having an album that suits all of your needs, then by all means go for it! As someone who's more willing than most to spring for deluxe albums, I get it.

The printing issue seems like an alignment/registration issue. What happens if you print the same page on standard photocopy paper? Is the misalignment still evident?

if so, check your printer utility software, which should have an option to print a test page and to check alignment.
