Pushing 330,000 All Different Worldwide Stamps In One Collection .

I like seeing all the pages filled with stamps posted in this thread. Given the volume I can appreciate the ease and low cost of 8.5x11 and d-ring binders. The complete pages are impressive.

I started with 8.5 x 11 paper years ago but switched to Scott Specialty page size with used Scott Specialty binders foumd low cost. The pages were die cut and 80# similar to Scott. I have some in their 3-ring

I have supplemented a couple Scott International albums with paper that size for my Middle East collection.

I found the Minkus country specific binders are a nice size. I had an Italy album from when I was a kid and I supplemented that with Steiner

I use an hp wide format printer.

8.5 x11 is easier and lighthouse binders with slip case are nice

I have also found some album easy and other pages off internet I like better than Steiner. Germany and Russia are two examples with stamp images

The Austria page is another example of Steiner's shoddy lay-outs. The stamps don't need to be squashed in four rows, with a top-heavy first row. And, even with his lay-out, why the acre of blank space instead of centring the stamps on the page?

GeoffHa ---- Agree that page and many Steiner Pages could of been design better , do know Bill Steiner used many different support people who worked on the page design and layouts of the program to make the CD .

Bill leaves the door open to redesign his stuff . But collectors who have very little computer know how just use his work as is .

As for me ,my issue is different than most ,I need 30,000 to 50,000 pages for a worldwide collection then add on to that 11 binders of Cinderella stamps also 5 binders of Forgery collection . So as you can see I need a album page at the touch of a finger not a project to work on for the evening .

We had a stamp auction firm trying to sell something like I posted above.

Cherrystone Philatelic Auctioneers had on their JAN 7-8 ,2025 auction a lot #1471 . It was for a 72+ volume of three inch three ring binders which was computer generated album pages . So as your can see I am not the only one doing this . This was a whole world collection with stamps for a opening bid of $23,000.00 ,it did not sell .
My thinking was it was way over price at $23,000 .00 . First the auction house clearly states the binders has no commerical value then gave a poor description of what you got . 50,000 different stamps has a $2500.00 vaue. Then 200 or 300 stamps or sets over $100.00 . {lets use 250 different just as a example } so 250 X $30.00 value comes to $7500.00 so stamp wise , it is a $9,000 -$10,000 collection with their no VALUE for pages and binders ------Where the heck did they get $23,000.00 opening bid ?

I looked at the Cherrystone auction description. If you wanted to sell something for $23K, I think you would add a few more images. Those large binders must be heavy. You can get a good idea with the fine presentation of the lot!

I wonder what "1840" stamp is in the collection.

Cherrystone is high on their estimates and the lots have a high pass rate. Unlike other firms though you never see the material offered by them again. They have to be taking one shot at getting a high retail number and if that fails wholesaling it out the back door.

I can't see $23k either, nor even 20.

Must be down the back of that armchair.

That's my cyclical conundrum. I make my own pages with AlbumEasy and will spend one evening making pages and the next mounting stamps. And on the third evening, I wonder if I should just print out Steiner pages (I have them too) and get on with it. #128513;

I stick with my process because for me, the time spent making the page is actually time spent learning about the issue. I can slap down nicely distributed stamp boxes in under a minute, but spend a few more finding out as much as I can about the stamps.

(This is not a criticism! I admire your process and what you're building very much! And I love seeing full sets of stamps I am nowhere near owning.)

If making pages is part of the hobby for you, that's not wrong. Plus, you're getting a few more hours of interest out of the money you already spent on the stamps. That's a bargain.

I agree. Making up the quadrille pages is as much part of the collecting as buying the stamps is. I also have preprinted albums, but it's like putting the supermarket delivery in the fridge.

The description on that collection is 50,000 "singles and sets" so it could be a higher number of total stamps. (I agree that the estimate is high, and that the lot is underdescribed and would need to be viewed to get any sense of it).

I also agree that Cherrystone tends towards very high start prices. On the other hand, they definitely sold quite a bit of Al Kugel's material, so not all of it is too high. (as a side note, I just sold a cover yesterday that I bought at Cherrystone a few months ago and made a tidy profit on. Cover was properly described, just went cheap in the auction. It's a weird business).

Who on earth would spend 20,000 plus dollars on a lot with no pictures?

looks like all cheap paper and cheap binders. Thus, the stamps better be good. At least the collection will have consistency.
