Used And New Stamps Sets Of 2 Or More

I have finished identifying the 7600 U.S. individual stamps. I seperated the used from the unused and now am moving on to the mutlitude of stamps where there are more than 1, like 2, 3, 4... all still together. For the sake of this discussion there are no selage attached for plate numbers.

My questions are this.

1) is a 2 stamp "set" of equal desireability as 2 individuals. How about 4, 5, 6, 8 or more?

2) If some "sets" are desireable is it only in even numbers (assuming not coil). If coil does size matter as they say?

Just trying to decide if I should tear up multiples or leave the "sets" intact

A "set" is a number of different stamps connected by theme. I think what you mean are pairs, blocks, strips etc of the same stamp. If you're selling, a block of four may be of interest, pairs much less so, unless earlier, scarcer stamps.

If the stamps are coils, I would keep them at least in pairs. If a strip has a plate number on one of the stamps, by all means keep the strip intact. These are usually collected in strips of 5 with the plate number on the middle stamp. An exception occurs on modern coils where multiple designs are involved.

Keep in mind that once separated, they can not be rejoined. Since these are extras, what is your purpose in separating them? This will probably help you decide whether or not to keep together or to separate.
