Vliettim, Look at the grill like it's a spreadsheet.
Count the columns.
Common Grills
less than 13 columns it's an "F" grill
13 or 14 columns it's an "E" grill
Experimental grills
Exactly 15 columns it's a "D" grill
Wider even, 18 columns with the points coming up through the face of the stamp, it's a "C" grill
14 columns, and the points are horizontal (everything else, the points are vertical), it's a "Z" grill
If the points cover the stamp, it's an "A" grill
You won't just "find" an "A", "C" or "Z" grill.
You may never, even at a show, see a "B" grill.
You won't just "find" a 2 cent "D" grill.
It is possible to find 3 cent "D" grills-- I have found 3 on
ebay.
I used to look at the back (when it was shown) of every #88 "E grill" that has a dull rose color. I found 3 that had 15 columns instead of 14.
Hope this is helpful.
