What was the purpose of these specimen stamps? They were not very common in general, but Rhodesias had many specimen stamps.

The final print of this stamp has different colours.

This is a typical Waterlow specimen type with punch hole (at lower left) that was sold off from their archives long ago. These originally came in sheets of 9 and used as samples to send to Waterlow customers (color trials and progessive proofs were similarly overprinted and punched) and/or for Waterlow's archival purposes.
