Could someone please share his opinion on this 5 dollar China ,1898, vertical pair, imperforate between, Scott #109 b. A stamp dealer has offered at a small percent of it's catalog value this pair to several collectors as a possible original.
Is it one of the many counterfeits of rare Chinese stamps that exist?
I have serious suspicions regarding it's authenticity because the catalog indicates the stamp can be seen only in unused condition.

Giving us a blurry, overly bright image does not help. In any case, this is not 109b but is supposed to be an error of 160 (Maritime Customs overprint) that is nonexistent or a nonexistent value with the Commercial Press overprint.

That said, the overprint is incorrect, using some other typeface not used for either overprint.

I would like to apologize, for the poor quality of the images. The owner didn't want to provide additional photos with higher resolution, so this is why I posted these . If I have managed to understand your post correctly, the overprint is from completely different type not used on this issue at all. Maybe these pair of stamps could be classified as some sort of fantasy or bogus issue.
