Good Evening Stamp Experts,

Please give me an idea of the authenticity and value of the proof stamp below. All I have is the journal clipping and "proof" stamp that goes with it. Thank you for looking and giving me your honest opinion.

Thank you

JOURNAL NOTE:

JOURNAL NOTE TEXT:
"Oswald L. Harvey wrote: Queen Victoria was a clean-cut and attractive person but it took the Royal Academician Alfred Edward Chalon to make her beautiful... it is the function of the artist to reveal the soul of his subject and Chalon has depicted a Queen. This is the Cousins engraving from the portrait as made by the British American Bank Note Co., Die No. 1 and is considered one of the more perfect reproductions of the Chalon. New Zealand Proof No. 10 Colonial Print Original Cat. 70.00"

There are a lot of these on ebay.

Quote:
The Hausburg reprints were printed in 1906, for "Mr Hausberg" whom lived in the UK and wanted to produce a monograph on these issues. The monograph never eventuated as Hausberg died before it could be completed. There were 1020 sheets (244,800 stamps) printed of the 2d (plate 2) and it is believed 26 sheets including 2d (plate 1) were printed of the other values all on card. Twenty of each of these sheets were retained by the Post Office the balance going to Hausburg.

It is thought that the Government Printer, prior to printing the sheets for Hausburg, also printed off a small number of sheets of each value, including both 2d plates, on wove paper, partly to check the condition of the plate.

In 1913, further prints were taken from the 2d plate 2 for incorporation into Joliffe's book. These were also on wove paper. They can be distinguished from the 1906 printing by comparing the thickness of the paper used for each although the 1913 prints are described as being "whiter and smoother" than the 1906 prints.

The (plate 1) variety exhibits reasonably even wear across the whole design.

The blue and green examples in other entries were printed later, probably the fifties or later. These were not printed from the actual plate but were reproduced from a sheet of the printed stamps, probably a Hausburg sheet

Again, compare "sold" prices on ebay vs. "offered" prices and they are really worth around $4-5 each. That is actually more than I expected (inflation?) since It feels like all of these posthumous proofs still are in circulation.

Somewhere around here I have a copy of the book these were printed for. A partial sheet was included, bound into each book.
