I collect US stamps with a military theme and have created an album specifically to hold these stamps. I am just completing the last page of the album, for the year 2000 as I don't want to bother with peel and stick stamps. I cannot find any of the stamps, other than the 33-cent regular issue listed anywhere other than in association with this booklet and am trying to figure out what the other denominations in the booklet were used for.

The 33-cent denomination was the only submarine issued in sheet format. All the others came in the prestige booklet. In fact, there are two versions of the 33-cent denomination as the sheet & booklet stamps are slightly different. One of them has a microprinted USPS on the sail, the other does not. |

60c was also the certificate of mailing service fee. The 60c stamp was Scott C135:  The image was grabbed from an ebay listing for $1.37. |

A USPS press release for the submarine issue stated that the 60 cent stamp was for the certificate of mailing fee and thus the reason I stated such. |

Rogdcam, I was reading the link you posted above and it stated that the 22 cent stamp was for the second ounce. The postcard rate at that time was 21 cents

The illustrated redacted certificate of mailing is from a Linn's Article. It is not from the USPS press release. While 60 cents was the cost (FEE) of a certificate of mailing at that time far more airmail letters were sent with 60 cents postage than COMs.
By the same token one could say the $3.20 stamp was for firm book with six COMs done at once. None of the submarine stamps are service inscribed and all were valid for paying postage and fees on US Mail Matter.

Again, can you provide a link to the USPS Publicity Press Release? No. Find it yourself. Or if you possibly being wrong about something will cause an endless thread with endless debate, I am not interested in being involved. You are playing with yourself this time. And yes, the image is from Linn's because that is a quick thing that I can do at the moment. The press release was a SOB to find, and I am not going to spend an hour of my life right now to make you feel better. |
