The cover below has a rather nice and so far unrecorded strike of a F.E.C.B. postmaster handstamp from Richibucto N.B. used in 1945. The initials T.V. will be those of the postmaster.

This hand stamp would have been ordered by the postmaster and made locally. They were not an official post office issue.

Unfortunately the Canadian archive database of postmasters is not available on-line and I live in the U.K. While the Post Office guide for 1945 lists this post office it does not give the name for the postmaster.

Does anyone know who "T.V." was or how I may be able to find out

Some of the information from the Post Offices and Postmaster database is online, but they don't make it easy to find. Here's the relevant page, and the answer is Theodore Vautour.

To get this result, here's what I did:

1. Go to Collection Search.
2. Select "Advanced Search".
3. Enter the search term, select "Post Offices and Postmasters" from the Database dropdown, hit Search
4. Select the Richibucto result.
5. Click "Record Information – Details" to see the detailed results.

Thank you for that The name is what I wanted.

I knew about that search process but when I tried it before and also following your reply I see the following

As you can see it says that there are no digital objects.

If I run the advanced search as below with the filter "Available on-line" set to yes as below I get the "0 results found"

If what I am doing is what you think I should be I will send a query to the library

Click the word "Richibucto" in that first search result.

"No digital objects" probably just means they don't have source documents available in digital form for display or download. That doesn't mean the data hasn't been entered, though. No need to check "available on-line" either.

Once more thank you

As you said they do not make it easy !!!

Once I saw that "no digital object" I did not think to look further.

It's a very poorly designed webpage, to say the least.

Foreign Exchange Control Board (F.E.C.B.) Interesting bit of information. Was created in Canada in 1939 during War Measures Act for some kind of control of monetary exchange.
