I Might be very lucky so I'm going to post some pics of the rare 1 cent franklin scott 596 I've done all the research took the measurements and now I turn to you guys to tell me what I'm missing or if I have what I think. Perf 11 length 22.5 width 19.3 rotary press. Over the top I've laid the scott 581 rotary press so you can see the measurement. All comments are welcome thanks.
Let's start with the template, Scott 581 is perf 10. Your template has the same perforation rate as the stamps on the card, which you claim to be a perf 11 stamp. So your template ID is in error for starters.
(For this and other reasons, I think there is a high probability you have a 552 template over the 552s on the card.))
I came to the same conclusion as John Becker ... the template has the same perf gauge as the stamp being measured. While I suppose you could have used a spare 596 as the template, I am thinking & hoping that they are both 552s.
The white whale is likely a goldfish. Still educational though. Maybe the topic title should reference a 596 in order to be more useful for the forum search engine?
Stamp on the post card is a flat plate printing. Note the centerline at the bottom of the stamp. Coil waste issues do not have a centerline at the bottom.
