And.......... It's interesting. Be even more interesting if there were 500 sheets behind those labels. Pat |

Apologies I should have confirmed that all 500 pages exist for both in mint condition. |

You might consider adding some comments on what you are trying to show us.
The second picture adds a lot of perspective compared to the first. It also gives an impression of the size and use of the packing label.
I am assuming you wanted us to observe something. If you put that in words and/or provide some background information, the thread comes to life for the reader. |

Paul,
A fascinating lot, presumably intact bundles of sheets as they were delivered to the GPO.
Don't be tempted to open them. With face value of $1,500 between them of unusable value stamps, the likely realisation will be a fraction of that. As intact items, I suspect you would get much more.

Too late I opened one to prove the sheets existed. It is what it is I was just amazed with mint - 40 year old stamps in such quantities My mistake! |

Quote: Hi all Found these tonight - complete 500 sheets Now this is the story I want to hear, how did you just "found" these? Stamp pads as US material may be called are not something that routinely gets misplaced and resurfaced. I enjoy looking through my piles and "making finds" of material I forgot I owned. But full pads, nope. Nice find by the way. As so advised never open these without good reason. You were prompted to open them by someone with poor reading skills as you title explained they were full unopened pads. If you posted both the label close up and the 3/4 side shoot of the full pads. you will have clearly shown what you have. As to collectors, there are both collectors of the full, unopened pads as well as just the pad labels. Never ruin something just to prove to nameless faceless internet forum denizens who have no investment in your items, just their entertainment. Edit: I am sorry you fell into that trap. What are you plans, keep them or sell them? If sell, keep them are repackaged as possible but do not add any tape. They should do well at auction. |

IMO if your intent is to make money keeping the packages is NOT the way to go. These stamps given their topical bird nature do well in single sets and blocks. Single sets and blocks attract collectors who will pay more towards retail prices. Quantities of 500 sheets immediately limit your buyer pool to a dealer that is willing to sit on inventory for years to make their money back. That almost inevitably means buying at wholesale prices. You can look at any auction lot of bulk sheets and see estimates of 5% or even less of catalog value and a lot of "passed" lots. Finding that one person that thinks that the intact pads are cool and will pay up is a very tall task. |

Quote: These stamps given their topical bird nature do well in single sets and blocks. Single sets and blocks attract collectors who will pay more towards retail prices. The OP's two lowest value stamps do make a "set" at all nor induce paying full retail. If time is more, the OP will not make enough to cover the huge time required to peddle these at retail. Wholesale is the way to go. Sealed pads of US material does not go at 5% of catalog, depending on the issue, they go over face. Face is usually 50% of catalog. A mixed lot of stamps do go at large discounts but two pads are far from being a mixed group of stamps. Quote: see estimates of 5% or even less of catalog value The OP should be happy with 5% of catalog or even 4% as that still is multiples of the $1500 face value. You never go broke taking a profit. |

Would a potential buyer not want to verify that the pads contained the 500 (separate) sheets as the label described, and not a glued together brick of 500? Or would a collector of unopened pads not care. Are there really collectors of unopened pads, or are they in fact just speculators hoping for a hot issue? Pat |

Quote:I disagree...again. I'd be long dead from shock if you did otherwise. Quote: Are there really collectors of unopened pads, or are they in fact just speculators hoping for a hot issue? Yes and unopened coils especially the 500 and above are sought out as well. Personally I have a few pads of the Mars Rover. As to collecting the top/bottom pad covers, I have some, but alas on 12 of the 13 for the Overrun Countries. Oh, pads of other S/S seem to trade well too. Back to you rogdcam. Since you disagreed with my comment which included the statement Quote: You never go broke taking a profit. I must ask, were you on the board of any of these four? I am 100% there are at least 50 sheets in each pad with RARE!!!!! UNIQUE!!!!! 'WINKING EYE BIRD'!!! or 'MOULTING BIRD'!!! or 'BIRD EATING WORM'!!! ERROR!!! if the buyer would break the pad apart, scan each sheet at 1200dpi and fly spec each image. A total true find of the century for a seller who knows how to market this material in the right way. (Sorry, my sarcasm is peaking today.) Don |
