Quote: I am 100% there are at least 50 sheets in each pad with RARE!!!!! UNIQUE!!!!! 'WINKING EYE BIRD'!!! or 'MOULTING BIRD'!!! or 'BIRD EATING WORM'!!! ERROR!!! if the buyer would break the pad apart, scan each sheet at 1200dpi and fly spec each image. A total true find of the century.... Don be careful....shhhh..... ....... souldjer777 might read this and miss the sarcasm. The kid will long be an adult before he would be done. ------------------------------------------------------------ I did find a constant variety on the Pelican of the US State Birds and Flowers. I named it based upon its appearance, in print, "[insert my name here]'s Guano. John Hotchner just ask if I was sure I wanted to use that name? |

To be clear, there is a specialized stamp catalog (the Australian Commonwealth Specialized Catalogue - ACSC) that does list 3 different flaws for the Crimson Finch stamp:
802d: Flaw through T of Australia 802e: White flaw at lower left corner 802f: White Dot under TR of Australia
All three are also found in a retouched version.
So, as a collector of these oddities, I would be looking carefully for these known varieties. |

"Yes and unopened coils especially the 500 and above are sought out as well." Yes. And right after purchase and the PNC strips are broken out the remainder end up as discount and charity postage. (Not that there's anything wrong with that). The Mars Rover seems a good bet for when/if there is a maned landing. They'll be in for plenty of use on commemorative covers. If you can hang on 2035 is my guess. pat |

I have, within the past six months, watched huge quantities of sheets in duplicate cross the block. They ranged from Russia to the UN and countless Countries/entities in between. They sold for pennies on the dollar. There is a saying though: Don't believe your lying eyes. |

That is interesting information rogdcam, but I was speaking of US and Australia. As to UN, if you sell half of a large holding you will get gas money to take the other half to a paper recycling lot. You may even break even but think of the extra room you'll have in your stamp office. That is at least a win. Edit: Quote: So, as a collector of these oddities, I would be looking carefully for these known varieties. Of course you would Partime, and they likely would end up in the already 36 page thread of yours about your "Australian Oddities." I even suggested to souldjer777 to look at your thread. |

Show me a dealer who sunk money into thousands of copies of the same common stamp and I will show you a broke dealer.
Your turn….. |

Pshann - Thanks for sharing. Where on earth (or beyond) did you find these? And all kidding aside, what have you thought of doing with 100,000 bird stamps? You must have some ideas? |

Pshann - you did nothing wrong. All you did was show something "interesting". What followed was spirited disagreement. I wouldn't be surprised if someone contacts you with offers to help disperse the packets. Pat |

No doubt interesting. Not to be negative, I am inquisitive and seeking opinion. I would have thought that bundles of that many would have been tighter packed like buying reams of paper. As well I would have thought that the label would more than likely have been glued onto paper and not taped on. And the packing tape has not dried or discolored wrapper after 42+ years in storage?. Especially noting they may have been in humid environment from the foxing or toning evident on the sheet shown in post. Are they possibly from a dealer who has checked through bundles of these for varieties, and rebundled them afterward? Your thoughts. |

Agreed. The brown paper wrapping and plastic tape appears very "modern" compared with the original label, which was cut off the original wrapping and is still "on piece". And yes it looks like a homemade effort of repackaging, definitely not "factory sealed".
I have no opinion whether a dealer or collector already went through them looking for varieties (are any of them expensive?) or whether someone in the past just opened up the pad to see what was inside, and simply resealed the package to keep them safe. |

Hi all Sorry - I can't remember where I got them. Must have been many years ago As advised, the original wrapping was opened New wrapping has been applied with old labels to ensure preservation. As to the future- I haven't decided and not really inclined to do anything but keep Thanks everyone I just thought it was interesting! How we forget!

Quote: I have no opinion whether a dealer or collector already went through them looking for varieties (are any of them expensive?) My ACSC is from 2002, so a bit old. The "catalog value" for the three varieties mentioned earlier are AUS$8 for Mint Never Hinged, and AUS$5 for Used. (They are probably closer to AUS$20 and $15 now.) Of course, I have no idea who would offer you that much for those, but at least there are some collectors out there that may bite on a copy or two. |

Personally speaking, I would have a difficult time using all the regular ones, no varieties, for mailing packages in the rest of my lifetime. I would then sell the two sheets as a pair for $6.00 if they were mine and contained all 3 varieties on the sheet. If varieties still catalogue $8.00 and face value of remaining stamps is 2.97 of the two sheets it totals $10.97. So $6.00 is not unreasonable. And in end you doubled face value of them which seems fair , especially if you originally purchased them at a discount to face. |
