Greetings!
Per my wonderful acquisition of a set of 2005 Scott catalogs, I know that the first stamp shown is a Queen Victoria Jubilee issue. I really would like to know the story of the markings 'Army Official' and it looks like it was canceled in Westminster??
On the second stamp, what do the letters in the corners mean? The one in the catalog has B's and H's. Mine has X's and O's.
Thanks so much for your help and info.
Donna

Hi War Eagle,

For the second stamp, the corner letters or check letters are the position on the sheet. For this issue printed in sheets of 480 - 24 stamps Across and 20 stamps down. The check letters run from AA to XT and AA to TX.
You can also check the plate of this stamp by looking next to the value about where the line cuts 1/2 there will be a number - 1,2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,19 or 20. Plate 9 being the rarest plate.

Thank you for the information. Now, wouldn't it be nice if it were plate 9!

War Eagle:

Army Officials were used by the British Army. See your American officials for "War Dept." for the same usage. Your cancel could also be Warminster or Lloydminster, or any number of other "...minster" named cities in Great Britain.

This is only a wild guess,
but "?..minster" coupled witha duplex 4??
can only be one of either two "minsters"

Kidderminster or Leominster.

I will stand corrected

Further thought, It cannot be Leominster, as the CDS
would be out of balance, it has to be Kidderminster.

and the army is there
