Hello everyone

I inherited stamps a number of years ago and have been sitting on them (not literally). At this point in time I can finally to start organizing them a bit.
Most are from 20's to mid late 40's that I have seen so far. there are many loose and a fair amount in blocks of 4 or 6.
From what I have been reading while browsing over time, a fair amount of collections out there are sold by the pound which sounds discouraging.
My question more or less, is there a place where I can post pictures as I work thru them to get a sense of worth ? I believe that is frowned upon here and I certainly want to dwell within the rules. I'm not crazy about posting anything on ebay at this point in time.
Any kind info is good info.

Thank You
Donato

Welcome!

Donato, you seem to want to sell your stamps. This forum does not frown on you posting pictures, but please keep in mind that it is awful difficult to get a good idea of what your holdings are worth.
One of the best ways of getting a pretty good opinion is to get it from a local stamp club member. You did not let us know in what area you live, but if you go to www.stamps.org you can find if there is a stamp club in your area.

Welcome Donato! Yes, please post pictures. Have you given thought to collecting stamps as your own hobby by building upon the collection you inherited?

Most used US stamps from the 1920s-40s are pretty low value (they often sell 25 stamps for 1 cent, etc.).
If you have unused blocks of 4 or 6 with plate numbers from 1938-1940s, these are "plate blocks"
and usually sell for around face value on ebay (e.g. 12c for a block of 4 3c stamps), so those are not big money makers, either.
Plate blocks from the 1920s-30s sell for a little more, but not much.
Plate blocks from the 1934 National Parks set should sell for above face value.

Pictures are very much encouraged on this site. Things go sideways when people post streams of countless pictures, or the pictures are out of focus or have poor lighting.
So: post a few well lit, in focus pictures of any album pages you find interesting, or group a few loose stamps together, and we'll happily share our collective wisdom and knowledge.

Hi everyone thanks for taking the time to reply, I greatly appreciate it.
I have no interest in taking up the hobby. I am semi retired in south Florida and don't have a passion for it, I will look up local events or enthusiast to get their assessment.
I had tried to post some quality pics in PDF format before discovering that won't work. I will post in a different format here on this site as I work thru them.

Thank you & Be Well
Donato

Donato,

The real value in these stamps is that they came down through your familt. Personally, I would keep them safe as a family keepsake. Guessing bassed on your atrain handle, are you a railroad fan? You might want to look at railroad related covers (RPO).

Enjoy having fun with stamps! That is the name of this game. Wonderful you are carrying on your father's collection. You are the next steward of a family treasure you can pass on to future generations. Its value as a family heirloom wil always surpass it monetary value.

Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences.

My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby.

Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ

I can fully understand about not having the passion for carrying on the legacy. I showed my brother my hobby items and what had value. His reply was: you are going in a dumpster with your stuff when you die. I told him when you die I'm gonna.....wait a minute. I have no come back for his reply. Anyway, have someone show you how to take pictures and how to submit on ebay. I only buy on ebay. You might break up the items and sell or auction them off piece mill. Have a minimum bid set in case there are items of value. Best to you.
