Hello, I am returning to stamp collecting after a long absence. My "primary" collection is mint US starting with the Trans-Mississippi and ending with the prexies. I also am interested in Switzerland, Canada, and British Africa to keep things interesting. I typically do not post much to forums as I never think I have much to add, but I am trying to be a little less solitary in my collecting and will try to be involved here. Thanks, Mike (Hermit)

Welcome to the Stamp Collecting Discussion and to stamp collecting in the Great State of Texas. All stamp shows and stamp dealers in Texas are listed on one website: Texas Stamp Dealers Association. Check it out! |

Welcome Mike. I also collect Switzerland and British Africa. French Africa is also a great area to consider if you're thinking of expanding even further. |

Welcome aboard, Mike. I am in Austin but just returned from four days at a conference at the Gaylord in Grapevine. Enjoyed seeing that area for the first time. I look forward to seeing your future posts.

Welcome Mike.
I'm in the DFW area.
Don't forget in addition to the TSDA bourses you mentioned in the initial post, we have the Greater Houston Stamp Show at Humble, TX in September, and the Mid-Cities Stamp Show in Grapevine, TX in November.
Depending where you are located, you may find a local stamp club that would widen your circle of friends with similar intersts.

back, Hermit, Collecting for the enjoyment of collecting, whatever that might be, is the name of the game. Don't hesitate to ask questions especially if you need basic information and especially more advanced sources of information for any possible topic. You should be able to find folks on this board a little further along on their collecting journey glad to share experiences. My personal bias is a used stamp loses the story of its journey in the postal service when it is removed from the cover it transported to its destination. Collecting postal history adds a whole new aspect to your journey in our hobby. Wishing you many enjoyable future days in our hobby. Russ |

Thanks for the greetings. I look forward to learning and hopefully sharing as well. I am not a newbie, just returning after pursuing other collectibles for one reason or another, I realized that my first collecting love is philately and now I can afford some of those things I could not afford when I was younger. Fortunately I did not dispose of my whole collection from before, so I am not starting from scratch. Thanks, Hermit |

Welcome aboard and I second Shermae's suggestion re French Africa to add to you already stated interest in British Africa. Love early Rhodesia with the double heads and Admirals, Niger Coast protectorate and BEA. |

I have been "off and on" for quite a while. I was considering selling the collection a few years back, but then, after reading the history behind some of the stamps (thanks to Mystic stamp) I got back into into the hobby. These are not boring little pieces of paper if you learn the history behind each stamp!!
So a community really understands that. |
