I've become curious how many stamps were in a pane for some of the less common size stamps, for example, 1940's Famous Americans. Is there an online reference with that info for all issues?

The Famous Americans were panes of 70.

Perhaps the quickest reference is to use ebay listings. Panes of nearly everything post-WWII should be represented.

You can also read through the e-version books at The U.S. Philatelic Classics Society. They have pdf versions of all four volumes of Johl (20th Century stamps to 1937) and for 19th Century, the three volume Brookman in their "Electronic Library. These are also available at Stampsmarter.org in their electronic library of publications.

Now if you are looking for a simple excel type listing, create one and offer it to Don for inclusion in Stampsmarter.org.

I've noticed the Brookman catalog lists the pane size of many issues

Now that is a surprise. They were not included in the print Brookman I would buy when buying a Brookman made some sense. No need to even buy it now for that information as it is in the FREE downloadable as a pdf abridged version here:

Edit: Always time to learn something new. Thanks, Perf10.
