Hi! I am new to these forums and have recently inherited some stamps. I found this stamp(#359) in the lot and would like to know what type of value it carries? Thank you and here are pictures!

If it is a genuine Scott #359, it's worth several hundred dollars.
However, it could easily be a Scott #333, which is worth more like 20c.
The difference is in the paper color.
It would need to be professionally authenticated to be able to successfully sell it as a Scott #359.

Questions people, likely, will ask:

What makes you think it is a #359?
Is that part gum on the back of a used stamp?

This is the Offset printing, type IV, which is Scott 530. Less than $1 ($0.30) in VF used sound condition for the catalog value.

Guessing that the stamp was in a 359 album space or simply marked as a 359 in it's storage method. Very common wishful thinking. As others have said the stamp is offset printed so no bueno as far as bluish paper goes.

I agree fully with orstampman, this is Scott 530.

Beyond that, it serves a good general lesson to approach any album with caution with regard to the previous owner's identification accuracy (or desire to just put something in every space). This is especially true with the 1908-23 definitive series (the Washington/Franklin series), where common and rare stamps can often look similar at first.

To put it another way, the more valuable a stamp may be the more likely it is misidentified.
