Dear all,

I stumbled across a small handful of stamps during a recent clearout. I have no idea where they came from, and personally know very little about stamps.

I'm looking for some advice on what to do with them. I know the chance of any being worth more than the paper they're printed on is essentially negligible, but I am wondering if any are at least interesting - i.e. if it is worth spending the effort to move them on to another home.

I don't like to disappoint, but I don't plan to get into amateur philately: though I can appreciate the attraction, I have one too many hobbies already!

Thanks in advice!

Jake

You can always give them to a local group of for instance boy scouts, sports club, school etc. Those folks usually know what to do - no sense in throwing them away

Thanks Peter, you're probably right!

Any of them anything to write home about, out of interest?

No, unfortunately all readily available. Out of curiosity are they glued on to that piece of brown paper, or hinged to it?

Maybe. Interesting for you?
Most stamps are from West Germany.
The 12 pfenning on the left and the 40 pfenning in the middle are US and British occupation after WWII.
The green 5 Pfenning on the right is from 1889, the German Empire. It is the oldest in this collection. The cancelation here is very centered, so some will find it more appealing.

Hope you find it interesting.

If you're uncertain about the stamps' value or significance, consider reaching out to a local stamp collector or a philatelic society. They can provide expert advice, help with identification, and offer insights into the stamps' potential worth.

PM, the stamps are loose (I'm sure many here will baulk at this!), placed here on a tabletop.

Thanks everyone - particularly Rob for your interesting insights! Would never have guessed any of them to be as old as 1889.

Place in an envelope labeled Germany stamps. Leave at a Post Office or Library table. Tack up on a bulletin board. Give to an old child.
